What is a Fiscal Sponsorship?

  • A fiscal sponsor is an established nonprofit organization that helps a new or smaller project like ours get off the ground by sharing its legal and tax-exempt status. This means we can accept donations and apply for grants—even before we have our own 501(c)(3) status.

  • Think of it like a trusted umbrella: the fiscal sponsor provides financial oversight, helps manage donations responsibly, and ensures we follow all the right rules while we grow. It’s a partnership that allows us to focus on delivering our mission and making an impact—while they handle the behind-the-scenes support.

  • So when you donate to us, your gift goes through our fiscal sponsor, who makes sure it’s safely and properly used to support our work. And yes—your donation is still tax-deductible!

The Smith-Barbieri Progressive Fund is a fiscal sponsor for CENTER FOR GROWTH AND EMPOWERMENT. No overhead will be withheld so 100% of your donation will benefit this important effort.

Who is Smith-Barbieri Progressive Fund?

We work to…

  • Build human potential and access to opportunities. Through our grants and activism, the Progressive Fund helps ensure vulnerable residents have access to tools and resources to thrive.

  • Foster nonprofit creativity and ingenuity. Through a unique program of incubation and fiscal sponsorships for startup non-profits, the Progressive Fund backs distinctive ideas by serving as a host foundation.

  • Build power. Through our fiscal sponsorships, grants, advocacy and activism, the Progressive Fund works to help tear down barriers of people and groups often locked out of the system so they can achieve the power necessary to thrive.

“We are grateful that you continue to step up to fill voids in our community with providing critical care in a compassionate and meaningful way. Our community is a better place because of you.”
